Whether you were born here, or just arrived, this is YOUR PARTY. Come dance, learn, explore, and celebrate the beauty of community and connection! Packed with fantastic cultural organizations, artists, and performers, this festival brings interactive components with free workshops and hands on demonstrations, plus live performances from a myriad of cultural groups and artists, including: Arcata West African Dance and Drum, Black Humboldt, Ballet Folklorico, Bandemonium, Bertha Peters, Centro del Pueblo, Capoeira, Dr. Oop, Hip Hop Humboldt, Humboldt Taiko, Indigenous Habitat Institute, Makenu, Redwood Steel, Rocio Cristal Samba, Theresa Surbaugh, White Lotus Cultural Dancers, Yolteotl Danza Azteca, and MORE!
Don’t miss the Arcata West African Dance and Drum performance. AWADD is a community group that studies traditional West African rhythms, and uses proceeds from community classes to bring Master African teachers to Humboldt County.
Ballet Folklorico de Humboldt Club is a group focused on sharing Mexican cultural heritage through dance with the goal of understanding and appreciating different cultures through dance, expression, and celebration, and offers traditional sword dancing and hair braiding workshops.
Black Humboldt will be hosting their first multi-artist art installation. This installation explores the rich legacy of African roots and lineage throughout the African Diaspora.The installation is entitled "Recalling our Roots: Stories of the Black and Afro Diaspora" and will offer an interactive visual and performance art experience that tells the story of Black ancestry. Throughout the day, attendees can engage with visual and performance artists, explore history lessons, browse a mini-library and archive tent, and participate in a rotation of workshops. Black Humboldt is a community-based, grassroots organization offering cultural, arts, and educational programming to the Black and Brown communities of The Redwood Region of California.
Bertha Peters will lead an acorn processing and acorn soup making workshop.
Centro del Pueblo will host an embroidery workshop and a theater workshop in addition to presenting a street theater play. Centro del Pueblo is an organization for Indigenous Peoples of the South, Immigrants and Latin community invested in creating a space to promote awareness of their rights and the cultural and artistic revitalization of their ancestral roots.
The talented performers of Hip Hop Humboldt will host two shows with performances from a DJ, vocal performers, and a multicultural band. Hip Hop Humboldt hosts a podcast and organizes events with the goal of building a networking hub that celebrates the talented Hip Hop artists in Humboldt County.
Humboldt Taiko will both be performing as well as leading group interactive workshops. Learn with a Japanese traditional drumming (taiko) instructional workshop as well as a folk dancing (bon odori) workshop. Humboldt Taiko is a traditional Japanese drumming troupe that performs and provides instruction to share cultural traditions and expand awareness of this traditional art form.
Live performance by Humboldt's premiere cumbia band, Makenu, a vibrant, psychedelic cumbia band that blends the traditional rhythms of cumbia with a wide array of modern influences. Formed in Humboldt County in 2021, the band unites musicians from Chile, Argentina, Peru, Puerto Rico, and California, each bringing their unique musical
background and energy to create an electrifying fusion that transcends borders and cultures.
Get Down in Mack Town! After the festival, stick around for a karaoke and roller skating party from 6PM-9PM.
